Bearwood's Front Garden Competition

May 2, 2018

I have been working with a local group here in Bearwood, designing the flyer for Bearwood's Front Garden Competition. The idea behind the theme is to push back against the trend to concrete over the front gardens and to get more blossoms and blooms and greenery back on the streets.

I really enjoy designing flyers for local indie events and initiatives. It brings me joy!

I loved the defiant hand holding the trowel, so I asked the organisers if they minded if I used it for my own personal message. Which led me to create this...

I believe that gardening is a form of resistance, if it's done right... trying to avoid being suckered into the consumerist industry of it all. Growing food, collecting seeds, planting flowers to help the bees, having dirt and soil instead of tarmac and pavement... it has to be the better way, right?
